Zeffy's public API gives your developer or consultant live access to three resources: Payments, Contacts and Campaigns. Reads cover all three. Writes cover contacts, plus recording and deleting offline payments. Every record includes full line-item detail, and you can filter by date.

The API uses HTTPS-only connections and API key authentication. Keys are generated per organization and can be regenerated at any time. Write access covers contacts and offline payments only, and unlocks after your organization completes its Stripe verification. Rate limiting at 100 requests per minute and 20 per second, shared across the organization, protects against abuse.

What data is available through the API?
Three resources: Payments, Contacts and Campaigns. Contacts support create, update, upsert on email and delete. Payments can be read, recorded as an offline payment, or deleted. Campaigns are read-only. Filter by date, paginate through results, and pull live data into any tool.
Do I need a developer to use the API?
For the API itself, yes — or a consultant who works with APIs. If you just want to ask questions about your donors without code, check out the Zeffy AI Assistant, which uses the same data and needs zero technical skills.
Can I write data back to Zeffy through the API?
Yes, for contacts. You can create, update, upsert on email and delete a contact. Payments can be recorded as an offline payment or deleted, but an existing payment cannot be edited. Campaigns are read-only. Write access requires your organization to have completed its Stripe verification; reads work either way.
What's the rate limit of the Zeffy API?
100 requests per minute and 20 per second, shared across your whole organization rather than counted per key. That covers dashboards and scheduled syncs comfortably. It is not a paid tier, so if you need more headroom, contact support.
Will I ever have to pay for Zeffy API access?
No. API access is free for every organization on Zeffy. Your data is yours, and accessing it is always free.
