
Most corporate-giving listicles read like brand encyclopedias: paragraphs of CSR backstory and zero ways to actually ask. If you run a nonprofit, you do not need to be told that Google is generous. You need the application link, the eligibility note, and the program type, on every entry.

U.S. corporations contribute roughly $21 billion to nonprofits each year, much of it through employee matching gifts, volunteer grants, foundation grants, in-kind donations, sponsorships, and community giving programs. Where your nonprofit fits depends on your cause area, your geography, and how many of your supporters work at companies with a matching-gift program.
Most large companies run two or three of these at once. We have placed each company under its strongest program below, with cross-references where relevant.
Google.org has historically directed around $200 million a year in grants to nonprofits and social enterprises serving underserved communities, and in 2025 invested more than $10 million in grants to help nonprofits adopt generative AI.
For matching, Google matches employee donations up to $10,000 per employee per year, including donations tied to charity runs, walks, and ride events.

The State Street Foundation focuses on the communities where the firm operates. In 2023 it gave $25.8 million in grants and invested $18.9 million in nonprofit programs.

Starbucks matches employee ("partner") donations up to $1,500 per partner per year and runs a "Partner Match" volunteer grant tied to logged service hours. The Starbucks Foundation also runs Neighborhood Grants nominated by partners in their communities.

Bank of America runs a sizable matching gift program for active employees and a separate philanthropic grants program through the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, with a focus on economic mobility, workforce development, and housing.

Johnson & Johnson matches employee donations at 2:1 for eligible nonprofits, up to $20,000 per employee per year, making it one of the most generous matching ratios among large U.S. employers. The company also awards volunteer grants when employees log qualifying service hours.

Apple matches employee donations dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 per employee per year and awards volunteer grants of $25 per hour of logged volunteer time.

Matching gifts only help your nonprofit when the matched dollars actually arrive intact. If a $5,000 employer match hits your donation page on a platform that takes 3 to 10 percent, the company's check effectively pays the platform before it pays your mission. Verizon's Volunteer Incentive Program directs $750 to a nonprofit when an employee volunteers 50 hours in a year. Employees can earn up to two of these grants annually for two different organizations.
Verizon also matches employee donations to schools up to $5,000 per year and up to $1,000 to other 501(c)(3) nonprofits. In early 2025, the Verizon Foundation contributed $1 million to Southern California wildfire relief through the American Red Cross and the LAFD Foundation.

ExxonMobil invested $192 million worldwide in 2023. The company awards a $500 grant to an eligible nonprofit when an individual or team of employees logs roughly 20 volunteer hours in a calendar year.
Matching gifts run at 3:1 for educational institutions and 1:1 for other eligible nonprofits.

Chevron's Human Energy volunteer grant program awards grants when employees log at least 20 hours of volunteer service in a year. The company also matches employee donations at 1:1 for eligible nonprofits.

If a corporate volunteer team wants to fundraise for you, set them up with peer-to-peer campaigns for corporate volunteer teams, so each team member has their own fundraising page tied back to your campaign.
Since 2011, the Home Depot Foundation has invested over $550 million in veteran causes and improved more than 65,000 veteran homes and facilities. Veteran Housing Grants typically range from $100,000 to $500,000, prioritizing cities with populations over 300,000.
In late 2024, the Foundation donated $10 million to NYU Langone Health to support emergency medical services in Brooklyn.
Eligibility: 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving U.S. veterans and their families. Single-home repair or construction projects are not eligible.

In early 2025, the CVS Health Foundation announced $4 million in grants over five years to organizations improving healthcare access for aging community members.

American Airlines focuses its giving on U.S. military members, social good, and global health. Donors can receive 50 frequent flyer miles per dollar donated through Stand Up To Cancer fundraisers. The airline also donates airline mileage certificates to nonprofits.

The Day-End Dough-Nation program partners Panera Bread cafes with local food pantries, youth shelters, soup kitchens, and after-school programs, donating end-of-day bread and bakery items.

Begin by building a relationship, not making an ask. Identify companies that already support causes similar to yours. Look at the company's mission, recent giving history, and employee engagement programs. Once you find a fit, send a personalized message highlighting shared values. Show them the impact their support could make, and ask for a meeting to explore alignment.

Research funders whose mission, giving priorities, and geographic focus align with your work. Community foundations, local corporations, and national grant databases are all good starting points.
2. Review the guidelines thoroughly
Carefully read each grant's requirements. Check eligibility, deadlines, word counts, and what they do and do not fund, so you do not miss a small detail that costs you the opportunity. It helps to know what type of grant you are looking for, whether operational, marketing, or start-up.

Prepare a grant toolkit you can reuse. Common documents include:

Use the application to show both your heart and your impact. State the problem you address, how your work solves it, and what outcomes you expect. Use data and real stories together.
5. Make it measurable
Funders want results. Outline how you will measure success: years in operation, number of people served, outcomes improved, systems changed.
6. Follow instructions (to the letter)
Stick to word limits, formatting, and submission guidelines. If they ask for three outcomes, give them three, not five. This shows respect for the process and attention to detail.
7. Submit early when possible
Give yourself buffer time to handle tech hiccups, last-minute edits, or required signatures. A rushed application is easy to spot.
8. Follow up with gratitude and updates
If awarded, send a thank-you note and update the funder on your progress. If not awarded, politely ask for feedback and stay in touch for the next round.
Corporate giving is a real revenue line for small nonprofits.
